Annual Vajrayana Intensive with Acharya Moh Hardin.
Lungta: The Wind of Life, Vitality, and Reality

Acharya Hardin: Lungta is the energy of basic goodness,
so it is both how the warrior discovers basic goodness
and is also the result of basic goodness. We could look at
lungta not just as a sudden glimpse of “free from fixed
mind,” but also as the continuity of the experience of
path. As the Sakyong writes, “lungta is far from being
just a tool of inspiration and luck, lungta is a means to
end the setting sun.”

To the Vajra Sangha of Texas and Louisiana,

I look forward to continuing our study of vajrayana together. Again this year, we will focus on deepening our understanding and embodiment of a key and unique feature of the Shambhala Terma teachings—lungta. Last year we focused on Ashe. This year I look forward to focusing on lungta—“the ability to ride the inherent strength and vitality of our awareness.” (Ruling Your World, SMR)

The root text is The Letter of the Black Ashe, the explanation of how to evoke
windhorse.

The Druk Sakyong commented on these lines from the root text in his 1978
Kalapa Assembly talks 2: “Invoking Windhorse”, 4: “The Virtuous Mark of the
Good Windhorse,” and 5: “Authentic Presence.”

For those of you who have attended a Scorpion Seal Assembly II, you have your
text.

These 13 lines from the root text describe the complete path to unwaning authentic
presence by invoking windhorse, so we will look at the entire section. But if you
want to focus your study and contemplation, in order to bring out the quality of
continuity, I would suggest the commentaries on lines 10 and 11: “will spread in
your body…” and “will spread in your mind.” That would be talk 4 in 1978.

But whether you are able to prepare or not, I look forward to practicing and
studying the vajra dharma with you. I hope auspiciousness allows you to be there,

Acharya Moh Hardin
